EPA Approves Kabuto® Fungicide SC for Spring Dead Spot

Oct 27, 2017

 |

PBI-Gordon Corporation announces that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently granted Federal registration for Kabuto® SC Fungicide for use in the treatment of spring dead spot (SDS) in warm-season turfgrass.

Labeled for use on golf courses, sports fields, and residential and commercial turf, Kabuto is a proprietary formulation for the preventative control of SDS, and the preventative and curative control of dollar spot (including control of carboxamide resistant dollar spot). It inhibits all stages of development in the fungal lifecycle, and can be applied up to eight times per year as part of a resistance management program.

“Spring dead spot is, without a doubt, the most severe disease for warm-season turfgrasses such as bermudagrass,” said Jim Goodrich, fungicide product manager for PBI-Gordon. “The disease appears in circular patches that remain dormant as the bermudagrass comes out of winter dormancy. The turf in these patches eventually collapses to the ground, leaving sunken areas in the turf that severely detract from its uniformity and playability.”

Goodrich added, “Extensive university and end-user testing has repeatedly shown that Kabuto SC Fungicide outperforms competitive products in the effective treatment of SDS.”

Other features of Kabuto Fungicide SC include:

  • A flowable (suspension concentrate) formulation
  • Highly effective at low and high use rates
  • No phytotoxicity concerns
  • FRAC Group 7

The formulated product Kabuto® was invented by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd. and developed and manufactured by ISK Biosciences Corporation. Kabuto® is a registered trademark of Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd.
