WEBINAR: Best Management Practices for Fine Fescue High Grass Areas

High grass areas can be challenging to maintain due to high weed pressure and their potential to get “too thick”. Steve McDonald will discuss both cultural and chemical practices and timing to maintain weed free and aesthetically pleasing fine fescue high grass areas on golf courses. Mowing timing and techniques will be outlined. Grassy and broadleaf weed biology and identification will be outlined. Pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide options for troublesome weeds will be discussed. Fine fescue establishment using the proper timing, seed selection and herbicide technologies will wrap up the last section of this 60-minute webinar.

About the Instructor
Steve McDonald is the owner of Turfgrass Disease Solutions, which conducts research trials and serves as an independent agronomic resource for turf managers. He earned his bachelors in turfgrass science from Delaware Valley College and masters. in turfgrass pathology from University of Maryland. McDonald has taught courses in the Rutgers Professional Golf Turf Management Program and at Delaware Valley University. His research efforts focus on the management of problematic diseases, insects, and weeds and the fertility of turfgrass. McDonald has taught both seminars and webinars for GCSAA.
